Default Weapon Design Contests ... Why Not a Writing Contest

Thought I'd throw this one out there. They often have the design-a-weapon contest or a guild emblem contest. Great for graphic artists. I haven't yet seen one for fan fic. I thought it might be a good idea to support this type of art as well. Anyone else?

I had a similar idea like this a while back, but I never got around to posting it.

I'd love this, I wouldn't mind taking part in a writing contest!

If I took part, I'd lose horribly. But it should still be fun to read the entries. Just be wary of bad slash fics . . .

Um.. how exactly would they implement fan fiction into the game? Are you one of those crazy bastards who actually reads the quest descriptions and sits through all the cutscenes?

I am, at least once. Why play a game without experiencing the whole thing? Cutscenes tell the story, quest dialog tells the story, and some of it is actually VERY well written. Try going to Jennurs Horde, and then take Master of Whispers into the Mines with you. You can pick up a VERY short and easy quest called Data Mining. Do that quest, and read everything. Even if you are a slow reader, that quest should take you about 5 minutes or less. Now tell me the quests are not well written, and don't deserve to be read.

The probably won't be able to implement them, but might be able to make quests from some of the fics. As for rewarding the players who make a good fic, just require a character name entered with the fan-fic.

And whats wrong with watching the cutscenes ?

Well maybe they could have a quest writing contest. Like you write out a quest or a series of quests with dialogue. HG:L had a quest writing contest, and it hasn't even launched yet.

I'm not too confident on that idea. It would be better if it was held unofficially and then Anet may come along and grab the winning idea. I just think that with the number of people that may enter, as well as the length of which people sometimes write, that the judging of such contests will take very long.
